CCMC’s artists celebrated Chinese culture with seniors and staff at Maristone Living, Mt. Juliet, TN. This event is part of “Embrace the World,” a monthly program organized by the Home. It was a wonderful event and the seniors enjoyed our music and calligraphy presentation.

Live Beijing Opera October 2016:
A troupe of performers from two of China’s top music schools is coming to MTSU this October to showcase the complex, fiery, and emotional aesthetics of Beijing Opera. This troupe, led by Song Fei, the top erhu (2-stringed fiddle) player in the world, includes many luminaries of Chinese art including Zhang Yao, a renowned vocalist currently serving as director of the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts (NACTA), acclaimed actress Wang Xiaoyan, and master Jinghu (2-stringed fiddle) player Wang Caiyun.

On Thursday October 13th between 4:30 and 5:30 pm, the troupe will host an interactive workshop in SFA 117 featuring musical performances, costumes, and face painting. Additionally, Zhang Yao will deliver a lecture on the Beijing Opera style.

The following day, Friday October 14th, there will be two performances. The first will be in SFA room 101 from 9:00 until 10:00 am. It will feature an assortment of Chinese folk melodies. The second performance will be in Hinton Hall at 7:30 pm and feature excerpts from Beijing Operas selected to demonstrate the style's vast emotional range.
