Biography

Andrea M. Georgiou earned her B.S. in Aerospace and Masters of Aerospace Education from Middle Tennessee State University and a Ph.D. in General Psychology from Capella University. Additionally, Dr. Georgiou holds an FAA Aircraft Dispatch certificate, private pilot certificate, and is the Flight Dispatch Coordinator in the Aerospace department. Andrea M. Georgiou earned her B.S. in Aerospace and Masters of Aerospace Education from Middle Tennessee State University and a Ph.D. in General Psychology from Capella University. Additionally, Dr. Georgiou holds an FAA Aircraft Dispatch certificate, private pilot certificate, and is the Flight Dispatch Coordinator in the Aerospace department. She serves as an honors faculty member and teaches a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses. Previously and current classes include: Flight Dispatch, Aviation Laws and Regulations, Aviation Weather, Professional Pilot II, Introduction to Aerospace, Human Factors, and Aviation Industries.

Her research interests are focused on effective teamwork, coordination, and communication among aviation professionals.  Her primary research platform is the MTSU NASA-funded high fidelity simulation lab of an airline operations center. To ensure the simulation lab and courses reflect the current aerospace industry, she frequently visits airline headquarters, visits upper-level management, and has developed an extensive network of aerospace professionals.

Dr. Georgiou has published and presented teamwork research in such journals and conferences as International Symposium of Aviation Psychology, International Conference on Human-Computer InteractionSociety for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, University Aviation Association, National Training Aircraft Symposium, and Aviation Accreditation Board International. The emphasis of her research is to provide a unique educational opportunity for the students to practice teamwork in a simulated airline environment and take the lessons learned with them into their careers to promote safe operations.
