Biography

Darren E. Levin holds a BFA in Theatre Design and Technology with Honors from Missouri State University, and MFA in Theatrical Design (Lighting Design Concentration) from The University of Texas at Austin.

Darren E. Levin holds a BFA in Theatre Design and Technology with Honors from Missouri State University, and MFA in Theatrical Design (Lighting Design Concentration) from The University of Texas at Austin.  

Prior to joining the faculty at MTSU, Mr. Levin served as the Assistant Technical Director and Lighting Supervisor for McCain Auditorium at Kansas State University. He has also worked with and designed for Cedar Point Live Entertainment/Cedar Fair Entertainment Corporation, Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts, and also toured North America as an electrician with Feld Entertainment’s production, Disney on Ice: Let’s Celebrate.  

Levin’s creative activity encompasses over 135 productions as lighting designer for Theatre, Dance and Opera. Credits with Nashville Repertory Theatre include Violet, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Ragtime (First Night Nashville Honors – Outstanding Lighting Design), Every Brilliant Thing, Pipeline (First Night Nashville Nominee – Outstanding Lighting Design), Avenue Q, Topdog/Underdog, Smart People, Posterity (Regional Premiere), Good Monsters (World Premiere), Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. Credits with Studio Tenn Theatre Company include It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play and Camelot (First Night Nashville Nominee – Outstanding Lighting Design).  

Mr. Levin also designs with Black Hills Playhouse, Green Mountain Opera Festival, Theatre West Summer Repertory, Mountain Rep Theatre, and Cedar Point Live Entertainment with credits including Legally Blonde, Grease, The 39 Steps, Side Show, Songs for a New World, The Music Man, Footloose, 9 to 5, Peter and the Starcatcher, The Rape of Lucretia, La Cenerentola, and She Loves Me.  

Mr. Levin is a member of the United States Institute of Theatre Technology (USITT) where he has served as a council member for the Essential Skills for the Entertainment Technician (eSET) program as well as the Vice Commissioner for Communications and Vice Commissioner for Equity Diversity and Inclusion of the Lighting Design and Technology Commission. He currently serves as the Lighting Design and Technology Commission Liaison to Professional Organizations.     

Levin is a proud member of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) Local 205 – Austin, Texas. He is also a member of United Scenic Artists 829 (USA829), the union representing designers and scenic artists in the entertainment industry, where he currently serves as a member of the Central Region Lighting Design Exam Committee.
