Dr. Kimmins is a Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences, having been on the MTSU faculty since 1983. From 2004-2009 Dr. Kimmins served as Associate Director of the Tennessee Mathematics, Science and Technology Education Center at MTSU.
Dr. Kimmins has worked extensively with preservice and inservice teachers. She has developed and taught undergraduate and graduate courses for both groups, and since 1997 has directed or co-directed 18 professional development project...
Dr. Kimmins has worked extensively with preservice and inservice teachers. She has developed and taught undergraduate and graduate courses for both groups, and since 1997 has directed or co-directed 18 professional development projects impacting over 1000 teachers from at least two-thirds of the school districts across Tennessee. Dr. Kimmins directed the Teachers Now congressionally-directed grant program from 2008-2010 which focused upon increasing the number and quality of middle grades teachers produced by MTSU. In cooperation with her colleagues, her total external funding exceeds $8M.
Since 2005 she has organized seven state-wide conferences, served on the state-wide committee to author the state mathematics curriculum standards and organized mathematics contests for students. She was Program Co-Chair of the 2009 National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Regional Conference in Nashville and received the MTSU Public Service Award in 2010.
