Biography

Professor Philip Loubere teaches applications and advanced classes in the Visual Communication concentration. Prior to joining MTSU, he worked as a visual journalist at three West Coast newspapers—The Seattle Times, the San Jose Mercury News and The Orange County Register—over a period of 12 years from 1996 to 2008. Before that, he taught art and design classes at Pierce College and at the University of Puget Sound, both in Tacoma, Washington.

Professor Philip Loubere teaches applications and advanced classes in the Visual Communication concentration. Prior to joining MTSU, he worked as a visual journalist at three West Coast newspapers—The Seattle Times, the San Jose Mercury News and The Orange County Register—over a period of 12 years from 1996 to 2008. Before that, he taught art and design classes at Pierce College and at the University of Puget Sound, both in Tacoma, Washington.

Prof. Loubere has an M.F.A. degree from the University of Wisconsin Madison, an M.A. from Eastern Illinois University, and a B.F.A. from SUNY College at Buffalo, N.Y. His areas of specialty include information graphics, illustration, print and digital publication design, and front end Web development. He is the author of A History of Communication Technology, published by Routledge in 2021.
