Bill Crabtree is a Professor of Recording Industry and Director of the M.F.A. in Recording Arts and Technologies. He received his B.S. in Recording Industry from Middle Tennessee State University and his M.Ed. in Instructional Technology from Cambridge College in Cambridge Massachusetts. Bill has been an educator in audio for over 20  years and has served as Assistant Professor at Berklee College of Music, Artist in Residence at Emerson College, Chairman of Recording Arts at Massachusetts Communications College, and Assistant Chairman of Audio Production at New England Institute of Art.

Bill spent much of his childhood and teenage years working in a variety of capacities in theatrical production at the Cumberland County Playhouse in Crossville TN. He learned to play drums and percussion and made his way into the orchestra by age 16 where he played over 30 major musicals.

After completing his undergraduate degree at MTSU, Bill spent many years in Boston Massachusetts where he worked as a musician, producer, and freelance engineer. He has done audio production, sound design, and music composition for many New England artists and corporate clients such as Silver Burdett & Ginn, Rounder Records, and Simon and Shuster Interactive. He worked as a staff engineer at Q Division Recording Studios in Boston where he recorded many jazz, pop, and world music artists.

 

Bill teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in studio recording and digital audio technology.
