Master of Arts in History

History Image The MTSU HIstory Department offers the Master of Arts in History. Students may choose a major field in United States or European History, but graduate classes in global history can fulfill requirements for the minor field. The MA in History is grounded in well-developed skills in research, writing, and critical thinking. All students take a common core of courses in historiography and historical research methods. They select from graduate readings seminars which are chronologically and topically based and focus on the historiography of a field. In research seminars students learn to conduct effective and significant research into primary source records and ground their work in the existing historical literature. For additional information on our graduate programs in history, please contact the department's Director of Graduate Studies, Dr. Mark Doyle, by email at mark.doyle@mtsu.edu, or by phone at 615-898-2545. For general inquiries about the graduate program please contact the department's Executive Aide, Tracie Ingram, by email at tracie.ingram@mtsu.edu or by phone at (615) 898-5798.
