The team award is open to any ITA program with a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners are factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year, which includes the fall 2016 and spring 2017 semesters. In addition, MT landed three Blue Raiders on the ITA Scholar Athlete list.
Sarah Sediri, Costanza Magazzini and Marta Peris Herrero earned the title of ITA Scholar Athlete this season after five Blue Raiders were honored last season. That award is given to student-athletes that earned a letter and maintained a 3.5 GPA over the course of two semesters.
Sediri closed out her four-year career as a Blue Raider with a career record of 46-56 in doubles and 40-50 in singles. She was named to the C-USA Honor Roll all four seasons and graduated in May 2017 with a degree in psychology.
After two years on the C-USA Honor Roll and a C-USA Academic Medal after her freshman year, Magazzini was also named an ITA Scholar Athlete. She posted a team-best 12 wins in the dual match season and earned a spot on the C-USA Second Team Singles list.
Herrero rounds out the list of 2017 ITA Scholar Athletes for MT. This is the third academic honor for the Manuel, Spain, native after her freshman year in Murfreesboro. Herrero was also listed on the C-USA Honor Roll and earned a C-USA Academic Medal after a 10-10 singles mark in the spring.
"This is a great honor for our team," MT head coach Charlie Ramsay said. "I'm proud of those three Scholar Athletes, and they deserve the recognition for their continued hard work in the classroom."
The 2017-18 season starts soon, with the Wally Tidwell Pro-Am slated for September 8-9 at the Adams Tennis Complex.
