The first version of the Writing Retreat is a 2-day event scheduled right before the 2018 Spring semester begins, Wednesday, January 10 (8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.) and Thursday, January 11 (8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.).
Participants will spend most of their time working on their writing projects (articles, books, book chapters, grant proposals, etc.). We think the retreat will be especially useful for (1) projects that are near completion and in need of substantial, focused time to finish, (2) collaborations where you and your partners can benefit by working together for extended, uninterrupted periods of time, and (3) “kick-starting” a back-burner writing project. Writing times will be scheduled in 2-hour blocks, with breaks between those blocks.
We will also offer a couple of 20-minute, optional workshop presentations during breaks (e.g., effective writing strategies, utilizing library resources). Each participant will be provided a Walker Library study room, which includes a desktop PC and wireless access for laptops and tablets. Study rooms are ideal for working on both individual and collaborative projects. Participants may also use Walker Library 462 and LT&ITC (room 348) to write.
Library Dean Bonnie Allen has agreed to provide refreshments for both days and the Provost’s Office has agreed to provide box lunches on the second day of the retreat.
