Appeal Process for Teacher Education

If you are struggling to meet the admission to teacher education requirements, you are eligible for appeal (i.e., admitted or conditionally admitted) if you meet one of the criteria below.

In lieu of the qualifying score on the ACT, SAT, or all 3 subtests of the Praxis Core, one of the following criteria must be met.

  1. Candidates with an ACT composite score of at least 20 must:
    1. have a score of 21 or better on two of three ACT subtests (English, Reading, and/or Math), and
    2. have earned a B- or better in the general education course aligned with the subtest without the qualifying score (i.e., Writing subtest – English 1010 or English 2020; Reading subtest-English 2020 or 2030; Math subtest- Math general education course).
  1. Candidates who have an ACT composite score less than a 20 must:
    1. have taken all 3 subtests of the Praxis Core at least one time, and
    2. have a qualifying score on 2 of 3 of the Praxis Core subtests, and
    3. have earned a B- or better in the general education course(s) aligned with the subtest without the qualifying score (i.e., for the Writing Subtest – English 1010 or English 1020; for Reading English 2020 or 2030; for the Math Subtest - Math general education course). 

In lieu of the minimum postsecondary inclusive grade point average of 2.75 at the time of application, students can be conditionally admitted to teacher education. One of the following criteria will be met in subsequent semesters leading to full admission to teacher education.

  1. Candidates with an inclusive GPA of at least a 2.5 and a maximum of 48 cumulative credit hours when applying for admission to teacher education must acquire the GPA of 2.75 after completing no more than 30 additional credit hours or two full-time semesters.
  2. Candidates with an inclusive GPA of at least a 2.5 and a maximum of 60 cumulative credit hours when applying for admission to teacher education must acquire the GPA of 2.75 after completing no more than 15 additional credit hours or one full-time semester of coursework.
