Areas of Expertise
I primarily teach in the combined MA/EdS School Psychology Program. Much of my teaching, research, and service activities have focused on evidence-based practices for improving academic achievement.
Biography
I am an Associate Professor at MTSU. I have taught in the MTSU Psychology Department for 23 years. I am currently the Program Director for the School Psychology combined MA/EdS Program. Read More »I am an Associate Professor at MTSU. I have taught in the MTSU Psychology Department for 23 years. I am currently the Program Director for the School Psychology combined MA/EdS Program. I received my Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Memphis with a concentration in School Psychology. I am also the faculty adviser for the School Psychology Organization on campus, which is a student organization open to all MTSU students interested in the field of School Psychology. Additionally, I am the faculty advisor for undergraduate Psychology majors interested in pursuing graduate school in the field of School Psychology.
I have provided service to the field of school psychology at both the national and state levels. At the state level, I served as President of the Tennessee School Psychology Association (TASP) for 2016-2017. I have also served as the TASP Awards Chair and Conference Chair. At the national level, I have served as a reviewer for the Program Approval Committee for the National Association of School Psychologists.

I have consistently presented at the National Association of School Psychologists' (NASP) annual conference (most recently in 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2020)

Other national presentations have been at the American Psychological Association, the Association for Psychological Science, and the University Council for Educational Administration annual conferences. I have also had numerous regional presentations at the Southeastern Psychological Association annual conference.

My areas of research interest include:
- Best practices in response to intervention models for the diagnosis of specific learning disabilities;
- Evidence-based practices for improving academic skills;
- Program evaluations;
- Factors influencing academic achievement (e.g., motivation, student engagement, goal setting, self-regulation);
- Academic misconduct; and
- Cyberbullying;
