Dr. Alanna L. Vaught serves as an instructor and the dual credit program coordinator in the School of Agriculture. Alanna earned a B.S. degree in Agricultural Business with a minor in Secondary Education from MTSU and a M. A. in Instructional Leadership from Tennessee Technological University. Vaught received her Doctorate in Agricultural Education in August 2013 from Texas A&M University. She joined the MTSU faculty in 2006 and has taught over 20 different courses.

Vaught was instrumental in the creation of the dual credit program in ABAS by writing and winning a $157,000 Perkins IV Reserve Grant to begin the program. Since its inception, Alanna has spoken to over 4000 high school students in approximately 31 counties over the past several years as coordinator. Vaught won an additional $119,500.00 in Perkins funding for the 2011-2012 year. To date the program has given thousands of high school students the opportunity to earn college credit in six possible courses. She encourages these students to pursue post-secondary education options as well as exploring college success techniques. Alanna has given various national presentations on the success of the School of Agriculture dual credit program and won first place in the Southern Association of Agricultural Educators Innovative Idea Presentation competition.

Dr. Vaught also developed the M.Ed. Agricultural Education Leadership program. She includes hands-on learning in many of her classes. She also encourages students to not only become active on campus but also in their surrounding communities. Vaught often partners with local industry to introduce students to job opportunities in the field of agriculture, and she works closely with 4-H and FFA. She was recognized by MTSU’s College of Basic and Applied Sciences in 2009–10 for excellence in teaching innovation and received the Outstanding Teacher Award from the MTSU foundation in 2012. Dr. Vaught also led the MTSU Dual Credit program receiving the 2020 Certified Tennessee Pathways Partner of the Year award. She also received the 2023 True Blue Citation of Distinction for Achievement in Education (MTSU Faculty).

Her hobbies include running a commercial Boer goat and Dorper sheep operation with her husband and sons, as well as showing sheep. Dr. Vaught and her family own and operate multiple rural tourism venues in Middle Tennessee.
