Biography
Aleka Akoyunoglou Blackwell joined the MTSU English department in 2001. She teaches courses in linguistics in the English Language Linguistics concentration in the English major as well as the interdisciplinary minor in Linguistic Studies. She is the founder of the Annual MTSU Linguistics Olympiad (www.mtsu.edu/lo) and serves as a coach for the US team at the International Linguistics Olympiad (https://ioling.org/). ...

She teaches courses in linguistics in the English Language Linguistics concentration in the English major as well as the interdisciplinary minor in Linguistic Studies. She is the founder of the Annual MTSU Linguistics Olympiad (www.mtsu.edu/lo) and serves as a coach for the US team at the International Linguistics Olympiad (https://ioling.org/). Dr. Blackwell teaches courses in introductory linguistics, syntactic theory, English phonetics and phonology, lexical semantics, lexicography, and English grammar. Her research explores lexical acquisition, the structure of the mental lexicon, and vocabulary assessment.
