Dr. Bowman holds a master's in Quantitative Psychology and Psychometrics and a doctorate in Human Performance with a specialization in Public Health from Middle Tennessee State University. She is an applied statistics and psychometrician with expertise in scale development and evaluation.

Her broad research interests include the measurement and modeling of social determinants of health, as well as social inequalities and inequities that contribute to health disparities.  Her work combines the rigors of biostatistics and psychometrics to understand the ways in which personal, social, political, economic, and cultural circumstances influence healthcare utilization and the onset or progression of disease. Her specific research focus includes creation and validation of measurement tools that assess disease specific health-related quality of life and wellbeing in chronic and rare disease populations. Additional research lines include determinants of early access to care for individuals with symptoms of severe mental illness and stigma reducing interventions.
