Biography

I am a historian of the Mexican War, American antebellum period, and military history. My research focuses on American junior officers during the Mexican War and how these officers confronted issues such as race, anti-Catholicism, and professionalism. This research also looks at the ways in which the experiences of these officers altered American opinions on the merits of a professional standing army. Recently, I have expanded my research to Napoleonic history.
