Biography

Carrie Pavel is an assistant professor of Interior Design at MTSU. As an architectural designer and historian, she is interested in ways that the study of the history and culture of the built environment can inform design practice and pedagogy. Carrie Pavel is an assistant professor of Interior Design at MTSU. As an architectural designer and historian, she is interested in ways that the study of the history and culture of the built environment can inform design practice and pedagogy. Carrie received a Master of Architecture degree with a certificate in Historic Preservation from DAAP at the University of Cincinnati, earning her graduating class’s Thesis Award for Distinguished Research. She is currently a PhD candidate in Architecture History and Culture at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where her dissertation focuses on methodological exchanges between architecture and allied arts in early 20th century Europe. Carrie has worked professionally in the fields of architecture, historic preservation, and cultural heritage management in the US and abroad, on projects as varied as design development for the Venetian Macao hotel, architectural visualization for the ancient archaeological sites of Troy and Samothrace, and brownfield remediation of an early 20th century dry farming community site in Colorado. Her research has been supported by the US Department of State, Title VIII, the Samuel H. Kress Foundation, and her scholarly and professional work published in Hospitality Magazine, National Geographic, and the Journal of Architectural Education, among others.
