Biography
Christine Poythress attended California State University at Northridge, concentrating in vocal performance. While in California, she also studied with Seth Riggs and, later, when in New York, with Mr. Riggs' teacher Keith Davis. Read More »Christine Poythress attended California State University at Northridge, concentrating in vocal performance. While in California, she also studied with Seth Riggs and, later, when in New York, with Mr. Riggs' teacher Keith Davis. In 2000, Christine earned a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Belmont University in Nashville, TN. While at Belmont, she participated in the Richard Miller Vocal Institute and assisted in the Vocal Arts Lab. Before joining the faculty at MTSU, Poythress taught applied lessons at both Belmont University and Cumberland University.
As a part MTSU’s University College/Distance Learning, Ms. Poythress is the Lead Designer for the online Introduction to Music (MUS 1030) course. In addition, she teaches Applied Voice and Music Appreciation at both Martin Methodist College in Pulaski, TN and Columbia State Community College in Columbia, TN.
Since 2001, she has worked as a reviewer, consultant and subject matter expert for McGraw-Hill Higher Education, Norton Publishing, and Pearson Publishing. With Dr. David Bridges, she co-authored a general music text, Music in Your Life. In 2006, she received an "Instructional Technologies Development Fellowship"; for development of a course template for MUS 1030
Her varied performance background includes three guest performances of the National Anthem in Madison Square. She was a featured soloist with The Savannah Symphony Chorale and The Brunswick Symphony. During her tenure at Cumberland University in Lebanon, TN she sang performances of Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass and the Mozart Requiem. A frequent recitalist, she has presented programs at Middle Tennessee State University; The Renaissance Center, Dickson, TN; The Arts at Ascension Series, The Lutheran Church of The Ascension, Savannah, GA; Wesley United Monumental Methodist, Savannah, GA; and The East Los Angeles College Noon Recital Series.
Her roles in Musical Theater and Theater include Ouiser, Steel Magnolias, Emma Goldman, Ragtime, Glenda, The Wizard of Oz (such fun to fly!); Bunny, Babes in Arms; the Snake, The Apple Tree; and Agnes, in Agnes of God .
She is currently active in the film community in Nashville and the south eastern region.
