Biography
Cosette Collier, Professor in the Department of Recording Industry at Middle Tennessee State University, has been teaching fulltime since 1993. Read More »Cosette Collier, Professor in the Department of Recording Industry at Middle Tennessee State University, has been teaching fulltime since 1993. She currently teaches classes in audio production and technology, studio engineering, sound for picture and video production. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Commercial Music/ Recording Engineering (1985) and a Master of Arts degree in Communication/ Film and Video Production (1992) from the University of Memphis. Ms. Collier continues to work as a video producer-editor, recording engineer, mastering engineer and audio restoration specialist.
Prior to coming to MTSU, Ms. Collier worked in the entertainment industry as an independent audio and video engineer working on numerous corporate and independent audio and video projects. She also worked as a staff studio engineer for Media General Broadcasting Inc. in Memphis. Her recording credits include first engineer and mix engineer for Highwater Records on the album Feelin' Good by Jesse Mae Hemphill, winner of the Handy Award for best Historical Acoustic Blues album in 1991. "Through A Woman's Voice" was a four-part NPR radio series and winner of the 1998 Communicator Awards, Crystal Award of Excellence for Audio Production. Ms. Collier was also recognized by MTSU with the 1999 Outstanding Creative Activity Award for her work on this project.
Ms. Collier is a voting member of National Association of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) and the Audio Engineering Society (AES). She has served as chair of the Nashville Section of the Audio Engineering Society and chair of the Women in Audio Committee of the Audio Engineering Society. She continues to work with the AES in various educational and historical endeavors.
