Biography

Dr. Stephens grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas, and attended the University of Arkansas at Little Rock for both her B.A. in Professional & Technical Writing and her graduate degree in Communication. Her Communication Master's degree focused on Training and Development, emphasizing the study of Interpersonal and Organizational Communication. Dr. Stephens grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas, and attended the University of Arkansas at Little Rock for both her B.A. in Professional & Technical Writing and her graduate degree in Communication. Her Communication Master's degree focused on Training and Development, emphasizing the study of Interpersonal and Organizational Communication. While obtaining her undergraduate and graduate degree, she worked in Public Administration for a retirement system as a communications manager. In this role, Dr. Stephens gave public presentations about the retirement system, updated the organization's website, organized retirement meetings, conducted training for the office staff, and performed other communication-related job duties. In 2005, Dr. Stephens made the decision to obtain her Ph.D. and was accepted into the Communication studies graduate school at the University of Memphis. Her area of specialty is health communication, with a focus on patient-provider care. 

Dr. Stephens also holds several certificates in online teaching through Quality Matters and LERN. 

Outside of her career, Dr. Stephens enjoys her time with her family and her extended family of three dogs. She is an avid swimmer, reader, and coffee drinker.
