Harlow Crandall is a Nashville-based songwriter and Ph.D. candidate at Middle Tennessee State University, where he is working on his dissertation, The Architects of Punk: A Study of The Literary Impulses of the New York Punk and No Wave Movements. His poetry has been published in the Hazmat Review, Wherewithal, and Greenbriar Review. Harlow serves as the principal songwriter and singer for New City Slang, who released their eponymous debut in 2017 and their reunion album Better and Old Demon in 2025. He has received the Richard C. and Virginia Peck Award, the Donovan Graduate Award for Excellence in Scholarship, and a New York Public Library Short-Term Research Fellowship.
