James Evans has spent the past two decades using his leadership, storytelling skills, and media expertise to lead the communications strategy at Rutherford County Schools during a period of rapid district growth. He serves as the school district’s Chief Communications Officer, and in 2025, was named the Tennessee School Communicator of the Year by the Tennessee School Public Relations Association. He began his professional journey at Middle Tennessee State University, where he studied journalism and served as editor-in-chief of the student newspaper, Sidelines. His early career included reporting and editorial roles at publications such as the Nashville Business Journal, The Ashland City Times, and The Tennessean, where he covered growth and government in Rutherford County.
