Biography

Jeff Gibson is a professor of Theatre and vice provost for planning and effectiveness. His current responsibilities include compliance reporting for institutional and specialized accreditation, institutional research and effectiveness, and institutional planning and implementation. Jeff Gibson is a professor of Theatre and vice provost for planning and effectiveness. His current responsibilities include compliance reporting for institutional and specialized accreditation, institutional research and effectiveness, and institutional planning and implementation. He previously served as Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, where he worked with departmental leaders and faculty on curriculum development, program assessment, and accreditation for arts programs. For over 10 years, Mr. Gibson was Chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance, and he is a past chair of the Theatre Division of the Tennessee Governors’ School for the Arts. Prior to joining MTSU in 2003, he served as Assistant to the President at Watkins College of Art & Design in Nashville and as a management assistant at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival in Montgomery, Alabama.

For the profession, Gibson has served as a two-term Past President of the Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC), which, with 5,000 members, is the largest membership organization in the world and strives to connect emerging artists, seasoned professionals, and academicians.  He is also an accreditation site visitor for the National Association of Schools of Theatre and a former chair of the American College Theatre Festival, Region IV.  Mr. Gibson has been recognized with the President’s Silver Column Award for Outstanding Service to the University, induction into the Southeastern Theatre Conference Hall of Fame, and the Kennedy Center Medallion for National Meritorious Service.
