Biography
Dr. Jennifer Snodgrass is the Director of the School of Music at Middle Tennessee State University. Before relocating to MTSU, Dr. Snodgrass was the Director of the School of Music at Lipscomb University (2022-2025) and the Director of Graduate Studies and Professor of Music Theory at Appalachian State (2005-2022). Read More »Dr. Jennifer Snodgrass is the Director of the School of Music at Middle Tennessee State University. Before relocating to MTSU, Dr. Snodgrass was the Director of the School of Music at Lipscomb University (2022-2025) and the Director of Graduate Studies and Professor of Music Theory at Appalachian State (2005-2022). Snodgrass has received numerous awards and grants in relation to teaching and research including the UNC Board of Governors Excellence in Teaching Award, Microsoft Teaching with Technology Grant, Plemmons Leadership Medallion, and the College Music Society Innovations in Technology and Teaching Award. She was named a quarter finalist for the GRAMMY Foundation Music Educator Award and was recently presented with the Bledsoe Faculty Excellence Award in Humanities in the Arts.Snodgrass has authored several texts including Fundamentals of Music Theory (Pearson), Contemporary Musicianship: Analysis and the Artist (Oxford University Press) and Teaching Music Theory: New Voices and Approaches (Oxford University Press). Her research has been published in multiple book chapters and she maintains an active presentation schedule at meetings of the Society for Music Theory, College Music Society, and the National Association of Schools of Music. She is also invested in conversations regarding higher education and is a contributor to Inside Higher Ed. Snodgrass currently serves as the Co-Director of the Gail Boyd de Stwolinski Center for Music Theory Pedagogy and the executive editor of the Journal of Music Theory Pedagogy.
