Dr. Wermert received his Ph.D. in Accounting from Indiana University and taught at Louisiana State University and Drake University prior to joining MTSU in 2002. Since joining MTSU, he has taught External Auditing (graduate and undergraduate), Financial Accounting and Accounting Information Systems.  Dr. Wermert has also served as the Program Director of the Master of Accountancy program and as the LBMC Outstanding Professor of Accounting. He is a past recipient of the E.W. “Wink” Midgett Service Award and the MTSU Outstanding Achievement in Instructional Technology Award.  His research has been published in journals such as Critical Perspectives on Accounting, Advances in Accounting Behavioral Research, and Oil, Gas & Energy Quarterly. 

Before entering academia, Dr. Wermert worked as an auditor for a large, international CPA firm and as the corporate controller for a publicly-held automotive parts manufacturer.  He is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant (inactive), and a Certified Information Systems Auditor (inactive).
