Biography

Karen Nourse Reed is an Associate Professor within MTSU's James E. Walker Library. She is the library's academic liaision to the College of Education and Department of Psychology; she also manages the Womack Curriculum Collection, a library unit devoted to K-12 teaching materials. Karen came to MTSU from southwestern Virginia where she was the sole librarian for a Title-I designated middle school of over 1000 students. She approaches education as a ministry, having experie...

Karen Nourse Reed is an Associate Professor within MTSU's James E. Walker Library. She is the library's academic liaision to the College of Education and Department of Psychology; she also manages the Womack Curriculum Collection, a library unit devoted to K-12 teaching materials. Karen came to MTSU from southwestern Virginia where she was the sole librarian for a Title-I designated middle school of over 1000 students. She approaches education as a ministry, having experienced early in her career the power which school librarians have to effect meaningful assistance to young people. Karen holds a Master of Library & Information Studies from UNC-Greensboro and a Master of Science in Education from Radford University. She received her doctorate through MTSU's Literacy Studies program. Her research interests include innovative programming within academic libraries, as well as K-12 school librarian advocacy.
