Dr. Kristi Julian is a Professor and Faculty Senator at Middle Tennessee State University. Dr. Julian is a National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) registered interior designer with experience in facilities design, healthcare, hospitality and construction. Dr. Kristi Julian is a Professor and Faculty Senator at Middle Tennessee State University. Dr. Julian is a National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) registered interior designer with experience in facilities design, healthcare, hospitality and construction. Dr. Julian is a Council for Interior Design Accreditation Site Visitor Chair with many years of practical experience in the field. Her research interests focus on pedagogy, life safety, virtual exchange and sustainability. She is a scholarship reviewer for numerous journals including but not limited to American Society of Engineering Education, Journal of Engineering Technology, Interior Design Educator’s Council, Common Ground Research Network Journals, and Sustainability Journal.

Dr. Julian is an Accredited Professional with Leadership in Environmental Design New Construction (LEED AP NC) and Building Design and Construction (LEED AP BD+C), Evidence Based Design (EDAC) and WELL Building Standard. Dr. Julian is a Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) CPD.  Dr. Julian is a founding member of the Council of Virtual Exchange (CoVE) and currently its acting Online Interface Deputy Director. She loves animals, enjoys traveling and spending time in nature.

"American Style Support to American-Style Higher Education in Iraq”

Mentor Professor Request for Participation (3 Mentors: 1 in area of effective teaching [possibly someone from the LT&ITC], 1 from Interior Design, and 1 from Computer Science)

Mentor for entire department: Mentoring included email and TEAMS communication, classroom observation, student mentoring, review of project deliverables, review of student capstone videos, juror for final capstone project, thesis, and presentations.

Target time: Feb 2021 – September 15, 2024
Mentorship participation will require but not be limited to - creation of content, assessment (surveys, etc.) of content and mentorship activities, detailed reports of process and achievements as related to the objectives and indicators in the “Task for Grant implementation” in the areas of effective teaching, advising, university services, research activities, continuous improvement, and accreditation process. The mentors must meet grant established deadlines, reporting, and are expected to participate in a minimum of 11 formal mentoring sessions, 1 visit of AUK to MTSU, and 1 official MTSU visit to AUK. Travel to Kurdistan for the “American Style Support to American-Style Higher Education in Iraq” ” project, a sub-award of a U.S. Department of State grant.

The 80a MTSU team has been providing support enhancing the partnership between the American University of Kurdistan (AUK) and MTSU, as well as providing advice, training and support to AUK faculty, administrators, and students to enhance student services and improve campus at AUK. I will visit AUK as a faculty mentor with Dr. Guanping Zheng, the project manager, and two other mentors.
