Matthew J. Brown is a photographer, educator, and amateur musician whose work explores labor, consumer culture, regional identity and transformation, leisure and the complexities of contemporary life with an ample degree of futility and humor. He holds an M.F.A with distinction from the University of Georgia and a B.F.A from East Tennessee State University. He has also completed photographic assignments for Fortune Magazine and ESPN College GameDay through Octagon. Brown's work has been exhibited nationally at venues including the Vermont Center for Photography, Atlanta Center for Photography, Athens Institute for Contemporary Art, West Virginia University Libraries, and internationally in Nizhny Tagil, Sverdlovsk Oblast, Russia, among others. His photographs are held in private and permanent collections including the Archive of Documentary Arts at Duke University, the University of Georgia, and East Tennessee State University.
