Biography
Dr. Beckman currently teaches Professional Pilot III (Commercial ground school), Aviation Safety, Aviation Safety Management, Air Carrier Operations, and Introduction to Aerospace Research. Read More »Dr. Beckman currently teaches Professional Pilot III (Commercial ground school), Aviation Safety, Aviation Safety Management, Air Carrier Operations, and Introduction to Aerospace Research. Dr. Beckman’s research interests include flight training methods, the use of training devices and simulators in flight training, the use of scenario-based training in classroom settings, and the implementation of aviation safety management systems. She has served as the editor of the Collegiate Aviation Review and has had numerous articles published in the International Journal of Applied Aviation Studies, the International Symposium on Aviation Psychology, and the Journal of Aviation/Aerospace Education Research. She served as the Aerospace Department Chair from 2015-2021, as the Graduate Coordinator for the Aerospace Department from 2011-2017, and has chaired over 30 thesis committees. She received the University Aviation Association’s Laursen Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2010, an award given to an educator who has made outstanding contributions to aerospace education.
Dr. Beckman holds an FAA Airline Transport Pilot multi-engine land certificate, a Commercial/Instrument single-engine land certificate, and Certified Flight Instructor, Instrument Instructor, and Multi-engine Instructor certificates. She has approximately 2,500 hours total time, the majority of which is dual given. Prior to coming to MTSU in 2005, she was an Assistant Chief Flight Instructor and Associate Professor at Saint Louis University for 13 years.
