The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press notes that a bill in Congress would ease the way to keeping personal information about judges, including Supreme Court justices, out of the public eye.

The legislative effort stems from worry over physical attacks on judges’ homes and families, as have occurred.

“But as well-intentioned as the bill may be, the law as currently drafted would create serious obstacles to accountability reporting on the judiciary — and raise difficult First Amendment questions in the process,” RCFP writes.
