Center for Innovation in Media

Media is a fast paced, fast changing industry. Digital and mobile technology have forever changed how we get our news and information. At the Center for Innovation in Media we embrace change and create audience focused media that is engaged on all platforms. Students learn to tell stories on multiple platforms including mobile, web, social media, print, television, streaming video and radio.

The Center for Innovation in Media is the home to student media including:

Sidelines, a digital daily publication and quarterly printed publication
WMTS 88.3 FM, a student-run noncommercial radio station broadcasting a variety of music, talk and sports shows
Blue Raider Student Television, a student-run television station broadcasting on channel 10 in Rutherford County. Blue Raider Student Television produces original shows including live newscasts.
Match Records, a student-run record label which strives to involve students in all aspects of a traditional record label: talent acquisition and development, production, marketing and distribution. In turn, students gain real-world experience and opportunities for networking

The CIM is also home to WMOT Roots Radio 89.5 FM, MTSU's NPR Music station playing American Roots music over 100,000 watt of power throughout Middle Tennessee including Nashville and Murfreesboro.

WMOT 89.5 Roots Radio is a listener-supported National Public Radio (NPR) station based at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. As Middle Tennessee’s most powerful music station, WMOT has a 100,000-watt signal that reaches north to Bowling Green, Kentucky and south to the Alabama border. WMOT is located in the Center for Innovation in Media in MTSU’s College of Media and Entertainment, where students work alongside industry professionals in a dynamic, collaborative environment. WMOT features original American Roots programming and is dedicated to the music most deeply connected to Music City’s legacy: old school country music, bluegrass, singer/songwriter, folk, soul, R&B and old-school rock and roll. WMOT also continues to offer award-winning jazz programming on secondary channels, 89.5HD2 and 92.3FM in Rutherford County. You can stream WMOT at WMOT.org.

The CIM also supports independent media projects such as NSEN Sports, The Jasmine Morgan Report, sports blogs and podcasts. While financial support is very limited, start-up media projects have equal access to CIM labs, studios and equipment. Additional support comes from director, Val Hoeppner in the form of consulting, training, feedback and access to CIM equipment.

Faculty can access training, collaborate with students and use the facilities to produce media projects.

The CIM director is available to faculty as a consultant, trainer or as a guest lecturer
CIM facilities are available to faculty, including: Studio 2, television studio, WMTS radio production suite, the CIM Voice Tracking Rooom and use of lab and software for non-class related projects
Faculty may use the CIM as a startup facility for new media projects or research projects
Propose collaborations between student media, classes, faculty and WMOT
Scheduled use of the CIM conference room for meetings and collaborations
