As a service offered by the LT&ITC, we have organized this site according to the areas of research, teaching, service, and faculty development. Whereas we also include existing links to the available grant information and forms, the goal of the FAQ Decision Guide is to provide information (from the perspective of the grant committees and their chairs) to complement the published criteria. Much of this information has been provided by the most recent (former and/or incoming) grant committee chairs.

The FAQ Decision Guide for each grant includes information about its funding allowances and restrictions (e.g., who can and cannot apply, what can be funded), the most important attributes of successful and unsuccessful proposals, and award details (e.g., average $ amount, range of awards) from the previous year. This information will help you to ensure that your grant proposals are accurate for and applicable to the specific grant category. If you use this decision guide correctly, it should increase the likelihood that your submission is sent to the appropriate committee, that you are not including budget items that cannot be funded by the committee, and that the project goals fall within the stated or interpreted criteria of the award.

Caveat: Although we strive to keep the information in this decision guide up-to-date, you should realize that the award criteria, interpretations of those criteria, and committee membership can change from year to year. If you are unsure about a particular issue, please feel free to contact the grant committee chair.

Finally, if you are uncertain about which funding source is most appropriate for your idea, you may contact the LT&ITC Director of Faculty Development ( for additional guidance, suggestions, and feedback. Although we cannot formally review your proposal, we can help you to ensure that it is being sent to the correct committee and that it is structured in a way that will increase your chances of success.
