Middle Tennessee State University President Sidney McPhee tells of the beauty and wonder of China's past and its undeniable progress and evolution through images illustrating the history, traditions and everyday lifestyle of China and its people. Captured through the lens of a westerner who has explored more than 35 Chinese cities from an educational, social and personal perspective, the exhibit, comprising more than 10 years of photographic work and featuring more than 300 digital images and 30 16x20 prints in 14 different categories, promotes a positive new understanding of the People's Republic of China as a rising economic and cultural world power. Dr. McPhee tells his pictorial story not as a mere tourist but through the eyes and personal accounts of the Chinese friends and colleagues who have accompanied him throughout this incredible country.
Photographer Bio
Dr. Sidney A. McPhee is the tenth president of Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), which is located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, in the southern United States. A native of Nassau, Bahamas, and an amateur photographer for more than 25 years, he has enjoyed an extensive career in higher education and numerous awards and accolades, including the title of Honorary Professor at China Agricultural University in Beijing (2007). He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Prairie View A&M University (Texas); a master's degree from the University of Miami, Coral Gables (Florida); and a doctorate in applied behavioral studies in education from Oklahoma State University (Oklahoma). He enjoys sharing his photos with others, particularly with the school children that he mentors in Tennessee. He and his wife, Elizabeth, have two adult children, Sidney-Anthony and Seneca, who currently lives and works in China.
