  • 2006 – National Emmy Award for “The Ticket Fix”, an investigation of widespread ticket fixing.
  • 2002 – George Polk Award, duPont-Columbia Award, George Foster Peabody Award for “Friends in High Places” an investigation of insider contracts handed out by Tennessee’s governor.
  • 2000 – IRE (Investigative Reporters and Editors) Medal for “Who’s Policing the Police?” which exposed police corruption despite death threats and other attacks aimed at Williams.
  • 1993 – George Fosters Peabody Award for “Under the Influence” , an investigation of special interest lobbyists on Tennessee’s Capitol Hill.
  • 1990 – Pulitzer Prize finalist for public service
