Music Admissions

An audition is required for admission into the School of Music as a music major, music minor, or to take private lessons as a non-music major. The audition also determines music scholarship awards. Students wanting to audition for Fall 2023 admission to the School of Music should follow the steps below. Students may audition either in person or virtually. Apply for Undergraduate Admission

Step 1: Apply to MTSU.

Step 2: Complete the School of Music Application. (This includes non-music majors.)

Step 3: Request your letter(s) of recommendation be submitted using this form. We suggest that you copy the following URL for the recommendation form and paste it in an email to the persons of whom you are requesting a recommendation: https://forms.gle/CfPrY7wv14NBxBDP6

Music Majors should submit two recommendation letters: (1) ensemble director/music teacher, and (1) ensemble director/music teacher or a teacher from another academic area (for example: English or math).

Music Minors and Non-Music Majors should submit one recommendation letter from an ensemble director/music teacher.

Step 4. Review the audition requirements for your instrument.

Step 5. Audition for the School of Music either in person or virtually. In-person audition days are February 4, 2023 and February 18, 2023. You may select your date preference for an in-person audition when you complete the application for the School of Music in Step #2 above. Priority deadline for music scholarships is February 18, 2023. Auditions are scheduled via the School of Music application listed in step #2 above.
