AIER’s Bastiat Society program in Nashville will host an event with Robert E. Wright, Senior Research Fellow at AIER, and Aleksandra Przegalińska, Vice-Rector at the Kozminski University in Poland.
A balanced assessment of the potential benefits and costs of adopting a universal basic income policy, UBI Pro and Con explores arguments for and against Universal Basic Income (UBI) proposals. After defining UBI, providing historical examples, and describing recent UBI experiments, the speakers will summarize each argument in favor of UBI and immediately follow it with the best known rebuttal. Topics include UBI’s potential effects on educational attainment, the environment, family structures, democracy, government budgets, health outcomes, jobs, labor force participation rates, political party alignments, and poverty.

More about the speakers:
Robert E. Wright is a Senior Research Fellow at the American Institute for Economic Research. He is the (co)author or (co)editor of over two dozen major books, book series, and edited collections, including AIER’s The Best of Thomas Paine (2021) and Financial Exclusion (2019). He has also (co)authored numerous articles for important journals, including the American Economic Review, Business History Review, Independent Review, Journal of Private Enterprise, Review of Finance, and Southern Economic Review. Robert has taught business, economics, and policy courses at Augustana University, NYU’s Stern School of Business, Temple University, the University of Virginia, and elsewhere since taking his Ph.D. in History from SUNY Buffalo in 1997.
 
Aleksandra Przegalińska (Ph.D., Philosophy, University of Warsaw, 2013) is Vice Rector of a major business school in Warsaw, Poland called Kozminski University. Aleksandra is a prolific author with significant followings on LinkedIn (ca. 10,000 followers), Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Her podcast, Something Singular (“Cos Osobliego”) is sponsored by Microsoft and Dell. As Vice Rector of the best business school in Central and Eastern Europe, she is widely known in European academic circles, especially AI ones, and enjoys regular research residencies at MIT, AIER, and Harvard University. Previously, she co-authored Collaborative Society with Dariusz Jemielniak, published by the MIT Press.
