The Political Thought of Frederick Douglass Discussion Colloquium

The Political Thought of Frederick Douglass Discussion Colloquium

Frederick Douglass

  • Date: Saturday, February 22, 2020
  • Location: MTSU

Sponsored by the Institute for Humane Studies, this day-long colloquium will center on informal, yet serious, discussion with just 15 participants. Professor Nicholas Buccola, the founding director of the Frederick Douglass Forum on Law, Rights, and Justice at Linfield College and the author of The Political Thought of Frederick Douglass: In Pursuit of American Liberty, will serve as the discussion leader in order to facilitate an in-depth exploration of the questions and challenges raised by a set of readings totaling around 130 pages that discuss the state of policing in the United States which we will provide and ask that participants read carefully in advance.

The event will take place on February 22nd, 2020 on MTSU’s campus. Participants, please be sure that your schedule allows you to arrive in time for breakfast (approximately 8:00 AM), and to be present through the concluding dinner Saturday night (7:00 PM). You will be expected to attend the full program, including discussions, meals, and socials. As compensation for your participation, IHS will provide an honorarium of $100.

This event is being hosted by the Political Economy Research Institute (PERI). The PERI, housed jointly in the Jones College of Business and the University Honors College, has a mission to engage undergraduate and graduate students with faculty in research that will further our understanding of business and economic principles, as well as their impact on regional, national, and international financial conditions and the well-being of society.
