Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

How should I dress for the initiation ceremony?

This is a solemn ceremony and the officers and faculty presenters will be wearing academic regalia. We do realize that you are first and foremost students and that you will be coming from class. Please wear what you will feel most comfortable wearing.

What if I cannot attend the ceremony?

You are strongly encouraged to attend the initiation ceremony, but if you are unable to attend, you can still become a member.  After the initiation ceremony, you can pick up your certificate and pin in HONR205, Monday through Friday, 8:00 - 4:30.

Can I bring more than one guest to the ceremony?

Yes, please invite your family members as well as faculty members. Encourage your guests to stay after the ceremony for light refreshments.

My class doesn't get out until 5:00; can I still attend the ceremony?

Yes. If you inform the chapter coordinator, Kathy Davis, at 615-898-2152 ahead of time she will see that the officers are informed of your late arrival.

Do you have Phi Kappa Phi honor cords, stoles and medallions that can be worn at graduation?

Yes. Cords and medallions can be purchased for $10 each and the stole is $25. They can be purchased prior to and after the initiation ceremony or in HONR205, 8:00 - 4:30 Monday through Friday. Cash or check only, as the chapter is not set-up to accept cards.  We encourage you to wear the recognition items on the day of your graduation.

What is the length of the initiation ceremony and if I need to attend class, can I leave early?

The actual ceremony lasts about 1 hour. We will work around your class schedule, though. If you inform the chapter coordinator, Kathy Davis, at 615-898-2152 of your schedule, she will let the officers know to present your certificate first.
