CB&HS serves over 5000 students in classroom education, training and research. The MTSU population reaps benefits with over 5000 additional students in Psychology courses and activity courses in H&HP. CB&HS benefits the university with maintaining its Carnegie classification (roughly 40% of the required PhD graduates per five years graduate from H&HP). State funding uses a high multiplier for funding for the large number of master’s students from H&HP and Psychology. This request, tied to maintaining all aspects of education, training and research includes funding for: Psychological assessment kits (Psychology), EEG related equipment (Neuroscience training and lab/research aspects of Psychology), specialized statistical modeling software and software to maintain the Psych 1410 (Gen. Ed. course) student participation in research data system (3000+ students per academic year); Activity, Lab and Emergency Equipment training courses (all tied to H&HP). Many DSE requested items will provide hands-on experiences essential for professional preparation of students in these fields. DSE makes it possible to provide students with educational experiences that are essential to meeting the missions of the College and MTSU as well as licensing and accreditation standards. National experts have identified these health disciplines as having a critical need for new people, with hands-on experiences/training/research. Additional enrollment/usage per academic year: Activity(H&HP) undergraduate :1800+ per year, upper division and graduate assessment courses as well as applied research courses (EXSC 3500,4240,4260, and 4010): undergrad - 200+. Graduate #s 80+. Psych 3070, 3990,4080) total: 400+; graduate courses, graduate research, theses and dissertations (H&HP and Psych) 200+.
