The Management and Marketing Department currently has a telephone survey laboratory in BAS S302 that has 26 computer student stations. We currently have WinCATI interviewing software and telephone headsets for S302. These items were first funded by TAF in the 2000-2001 year. Students enrolled in Marketing Research (MKT 3930), Applied Marketing Research (MKT 4880), and MKT Research (MKT 6860) use the lab for conducting market research projects and telephone surveys to develop 5 Middle Tennessee Consumer Outlook Reports each year. The Consumer Outlook Reports are widely distributed and provide positive exposure for MTSU. Approximately 200 – 250 students from these marketing courses will be exposed to the Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) technology and will conduct surveys each year. Other indexes that have been compiled through use of the lab and student participation include a Sports Affinity Index and MTSU campus surveys. The campus surveys are completed by marketing students based on requests from administrative offices. A student retention survey was the most recent survey completed by marketing research students. It is typical for the marketing students to collect data and make recommendations related to university issues. The Mid-Tenn Consumer Outlook Report and other initiatives completed through the Consumer Confidence Lab provide valuable hands-on learning opportunities for students. We need to renew the 3 year license for the WinCATI software in order to continue to operate the lab. The software license expires in August 2014.
