The COMM 103 classroom is the primary classroom used by the Electronic Media Communication department. Each semester it serves 700 or more students. The room is additionally used for a variety of extra-curricular activities such as film screenings, student organization meetings, and special meetings. As a department that teaches media production, it is vitally important that we have high quality media presentation facilities, and this is our primary classroom for this purpose. The proposed upgrade of this room concentrates on bringing the media presentation tools up to modern standards. The facilities in this room are at the end of their useability and out of alignment with campus standards. This room has never had a comprehensive upgrade since its original construction. Comm 150 is currently a tiered lecture classroom used by the School of Journalism. This request is to covert Comm 150 to a combination lecture/lab classroom which would be used by the School of Journalism with approx. 450 Journalism students using it per week. This proposal allows for the removal of the tiers and provides new flooring. 20 new Imacs (27 inch screen) would be needed to complete the conversion to a lecture/computer lab classroom. The lecture/computer lab classroom would use the Imacs to upload and process photos and video, and to produce graphics and publications for the VCOM, PR, ADV and JOUR classes.
