The Wiser-Patten Science building is being renovated between January 2015 and August 2016; every room will be updated *except* the large master classroom on the first floor. WPS 102 has a seating capacity of 102 students, and serviced over 1000 students each semester before the opening of the new science building. After the renovation, WPS 102 will be used primarily by Physics & Astronomy, and Geoscience. SCI 1003 and 1006, the two large master classrooms (>75 seats) in the new science building, already have no open periods M-F 8am – 5pm. Physics and Astronomy is currently dependent on BAS S102 and LRC 221 to service 1000 students in large classes due to decreased master classroom availability during the WPS renovation. As a result, all large PHYS courses are scheduled after 4:00pm to guarantee room availability during scheduling. This request is to update WPS 102 to current master classroom standards. In lieu of a projector, two large flat panel displays will be placed in the front of the room, two ceiling mounted displays will be located 1/3 of the distance from the board, and two more displays will be placed 2/3 of the distance from the board. The flat panels will allow the bright colors of Astronomy to be viewed without the need for the low lighting required when using a projector. Dual displays allow a projected computer image and document camera image to be shown simultaneously. The most convenient time to update this room is during the WPS renovation.
