The Cummings classroom (JCH 106) at MTSU is primarily used for teaching the freshmen seminar class, University 101. The Cummings classroom was constructed in Spring 1998 as part of the First Year Experience Program and classes have been taught in that classroom since Fall, 1998. The Cummings classroom is currently equipped with a TV/VCR, an overhead projector, and a whiteboard. Many University 101 instructors now use PowerPoint and other computer-based programs as part of their classroom instruction. In addition, many instructors require that their students become familiar with PowerPoint and use it for class presentations. Learning this technology the freshmen year is vital to student success in upper division classes. Each Fall semester approximately twelve sections of University 101 are scheduled in the Cummings classroom. Each Spring semester, approximately nine sections of University 101 are scheduled in the classroom. Each University 101 section enrolls 25 students. Thus, approximately 525 students would directly benefit from this technology annually.
