The Mathematics Education Curriculum Group in the Department of Mathematical Sciences offers courses to students in both the College of Education and our own department that focus on the teaching and learning of mathematics. Annual enrollments (Fall 2016 - Spring 2017) are: 280 in content courses for preservice elementary and middle school teachers, 40 in content and methods courses for preservice secondary school teachers, and 34 in graduate courses (MST and MSE programs) for a total of 354 annually. There are currently 550 students declared with majors in these programs, which are served by nine mathematics education specific undergraduate courses and a variety of graduate courses. In our work, we strive to model best practices in teaching, which includes appropriate use of technology. Currently, our accessible computer lab does not have updated software and lacks some of the technology we wish to use for instruction. In addition, we wish to provide technology instruction in a way that mirrors the instruction our student (prospective teachers) will employ in their future work as K-12 teachers. Most area K-12 schools use laptop carts for providing mathematics learning technology for their students. In order to offer a more robust experience with educational technology, we propose purchasing: (1) a laptop cart with 20 computers, and (2) mathematics education software to be installed on each laptop such as Geometer's Sketchpad, TI NSpire, Tinkerplots, Fathom, and Scientific Notebook.
