The Department of Art’s TAF proposal continues our commitment to program development that creates a challenging and engaging environment that places emphasis on innovative pedagogical practices. Letterpress requests updated type sets that while based on historical styles, utilize new technologies to produce precise printing techniques with an increased longevity of use. Graphic Design requests Fontographer 5 to allow students the ability to expand their access to new collections of digital based type faces and archiving. Additionally, they are requesting a Flatbed Cutter/ Plotter for expanded versatility in package design projects and portfolio development. Printmaking seeks to add a new screen stretcher to increase productivity in the related course sections and provide students the opportunity to utilize equipment found in the printing industry post graduation. Sculpture looks to continue the development of the new 3D print lab with the acquisition of the industry leading Artec Eva 3D Body Scanner and providing additional printers for increased student access. The addition of the scanner and printers allow students an immersive studio experience that blends current industry practices and provides students opportunities only offered in a select few programs across the United States. The department has placed an emphasis on strengthening diverse skill sets to address the ever changing needs of students within our program. This proposal would impact approximately 800+ students currently taking courses within the department and present opportunities to attract and retain future students interested in pursing visual art or design as a career path.
