Replacement of Existing Technology
The Dell Pentium 233 MHz computers in LRC 101A are four years old. They are showing increasing age- and use-associated breakdowns. The most recent software versions (Windows 2000 and Office 2000) stretch their memory capacity and operating speed. The scanners we wish to replace are also old and have poor resolution and performance. The disabled station we want to replace in LRC 101B is also four years old and needs to be replaced.

The Instructional Technology Support Center (ITSC) provides students with University-wide access to 101 computers in the Instructional Media Resources (IMR) Computer Center, two computer labs, a 21st century classroom, and the graduate student multimedia center. The IMR Computer Center is open 72 hours per week for walk-in use. Open lab times are scheduled in the labs up to 50 hours weekly. Any faculty member may schedule class sessions in the labs. Eight-six such sessions were scheduled last year. Student visits to the ITSC totaled 20,631 during 2000. The College of Education and Behavioral Science schedules 57 regular classes (enrollment=1368) in the ITSC annually. Each year, the ITSC tries to replace 1/4 of its computers. Last year we replaced the computers in one of our two labs (LRC 101B). This year we would like to replace the aging computers in our second lab (LRC 101A). We are trying to keep the computers in our two labs one year apart in our replacement cycle so that they can support the same software. We would also like to: (a) add a disabled student station to LRC 101A, (b) replace the disabled station in LRC 101B, and (C) replace two scanners in LRC 101A.
