The Department of Art and Design has created a new Foundations Course, Art 1650 (Foundations of Art and Design). This course will be required of all Studio and Graphic Design Majors, Art Education Majors, Visual Arts Majors, and Graphic Design Minors beginning Fall 2019. Art 1650 will introduce students to Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects at the start of their degree, enabling them to develop professional portfolios and apply for jobs and scholarships earlier than competitors in the discipline. In order to accommodate the demand for this class, it is necessary to create an additional MAC computer lab in Todd Hall. Our existing lab spaces are consistently scheduled back to back by Graphic Design classes. This lab will host approximately 8 sections of Art 1650 per semester and will be in use for 48 hours of instruction per week, not including out of class usage for assignment completion. Art 1650 is a studio class requiring 6 contact hours per week.
