The Aerospace Department proposes that the computer lab located in BAS S111 be equipped with appropriate technology to use the room for instructional purposes; i.e., a basic level master classroom. This room is utilized for multiple courses each semester; in spring 2019 these include AERO 4040 (two sections), AERO 4440, and AERO 4170. In fall 2018, these included AERO 4580, AERO 3110, AERO 4150, AERO 4650, and AERO 4440. In total, 262 students will have utilized this computer lab for academic instruction this academic year. Other Aerospace classes also regularly use the lab (i.e., AERO 4040 in the fall semesters), although we have not been diligent in making sure that use was reflected on the course schedule. Several years ago, a Nomad cart was provided for use in this lab. However, the placement of the cart so the projection can be made on the screen requires it to be in the center of the room, and thus half the students at computer stations are located with their back to the course instructor. The cart placement also makes it difficult for students to access the computer stations down the middle aisle of the room. In short, the cart is unwieldly and awkward to use for instruction. Aerospace faculty have indicated that the room would be utilized more heavily than it currently is and much more effectively for instruction if more modern equipment could be installed. Students have indicated the room is currently not functional as an instructional environment, given the limitations of the Nomad cart.
