The University Studies Department offers four prescribed mathematics courses and served over 1,680 students required to take these courses in 2018. Common threads for all of these courses consist of a learning outcome of using appropriate technology for mathematical reasoning and problem solving and using an online textbook-based course management system (MyMathLab), which includes a required component of completing homework online. We would like to have laptop pc’s in the classroom for students to use on course specific tasks, such as statistical analysis and graphing, accessing real-time data for exploring linearity and problem solving, and to give students the opportunity to work in MyMathLab using StatCrunch or on specific assignments. Additionally, being able to have laptops in classrooms will allow us to offer alternate methods of delivery for our courses. Thus, this request is for purchasing a laptop cart with 25 pc laptops and appropriate mathematics software installed on each laptop, such as TI-Smartview, Tinkerplots, and Geometer’s Sketchpad.
