The MTSU Center for Counseling and Psychological Services requests an allocation of $6961.01 for security upgrades to provide an additional level of security for our students, faculty, staff and clients. The Center was fortunate to receive a TAF Grant last year and truly appreciate the support. We are returning to the TAF Grant process so soon since last awarded due to recent tragic events that have shown an increased risk to the safety and well-being of everyone involved in counseling services. The Center is located in Building B of the Miller Education Center. To date, there are few groups located in Building B, making us very isolated. We provide services after regular business hours (5 to 8 pm). Therefore, we would like to improve our safety through technology. The Center currently has little physical safeguards in place. Center personnel have worked with University Police, ITD and Facility Services to develop a plan for improved safety/security in the Center. We request funds to allow the addition of security cameras, panic button(s), and improved access control in the Center. The proposed video security/panic button improvements would be part of the university system connected to University Police. The Access control items would allow us to lock our sliding doors from the check-in desk if there is a visual threat seen on the security cameras located in the lobby of Building B. We are grateful for the support from this Committee and hope the members understand our reasons for applying again this year.
