Health disciplines have been identified as having a critical need for new professionals who have hands-on experiences/training/research. DSE makes it possible to provide students with these essentials and it helps meet the missions of departments, College, MTSU and for training undergraduates/post-graduates as professionals in our state. CBHS as one of the largest colleges also serves an additional 5000+ university students taking Psychology courses and H&HP activity courses. DSE contributes to this capability. We graduate about 1000 undergraduates/academic year. CBHS benefits the university with funding by maintaining its Carnegie classification through graduating about 1/3 of the PhD graduates over the last five years. CBHS graduates approximately 50% of the MA degrees, which contributes to university funding. Our request is tied to maintaining all aspects of the university’s mission and includes: Adult /OB training equipment (Nursing), psychological assessment testing kits, Applied Behavioral Analysis program assistance tied to autism, utilizing animal models (behavioral and neurobiological elements), workstations for discipline specific equipment/software previously funded by TAF. Additionally H&HP, requesting the DXA bone density equipment for its students training and research, is establishing a partnership with the company that is providing the DXA (with a 20% discount). The Exercise Science major also uses this equipment with the TSSAA interscholastic system to tie into maintaining high school student athlete safety. Enrollment/usage per academic year: H&HP: undergraduate/graduate-250 per year, psych undergraduate 300+; graduate courses, graduate research, theses and dissertations (H&HP and Psych) 200+. Nursing, a signature program at MTSU, 256 students per year across adult /OB specializations.
